INTRODUCTION
 |
Welcome to the Musclemania Universe Championships! Now in it's 20th season, it has become the leader among natural bodybuilding events. With exclusive, international television coverage by ESPN International, TSN & RDS Canada, Sky Sport Britain, Star Sport Asia and other worldwide networks, Musclemania is more recognized than any other natural contest worldwide. And with this popularity, Musclemania continues to expand throughout the world with sanctioned regional and international events this year.
This year, Musclemania Universe joins the Universe Weekend for the first time. Musclemania Superbody has moved and will now be held in New York. Musclemania Universe is open to all natural bodybuilders and as an International Event welcome competitors from the USA, Canada and around the world. It has the same status as Musclemania Superbody and World with both amateur and Professional status and major magazine, television and live webcast coverage. |
HISTORY
|
Musclemania began in 1991 as bodybuilding's first and only tour of world class level staged competitions. Early on, Musclemania took a bold and challenging step forward by declaring that this exciting event would become a natural event. It would soon become America 's most popular natural bodybuilding competition.

QUALIFICATIONS
|
Any natural bodybuilder is welcome to compete in Musclemania events regardless of competitive experience. Beginners, novices or veterans can compete in any regional, national and/or international events. And, veteran competitors may compete regardless of past or current bodybuilding federation affiliations. Professionals from other federations must qualify by competing in the Open Mens Division.
Competitors who have won an overall division title at the Musclemania Universe may not compete in the same division again. Exceptions to this rule include the Women and Professional Divisions in which a competitor may win a specific competition title multiple times.

JUDGING AND PERFORMANCES
|
At the prejudging all contestants will be equally and fairly judged within their division and classes. This will include (1) an initial line-up, (2) mandatory poses and comparisons and (3) selected grouping comparisons. The process is rigorous and demanding, but with the sole intention of selecting who deserves to be a Musclemania Universe Finalist and Champion.
Musclemania judging criteria is based upon four, equally scored categories:
- Symmetry 30%;
- Muscle Mass 30%;
- Condition 30%;
- Posing Presentation 10% (Top 5 Finalists Only)
At the Finals all contestants will be introduced to the audience and participate in a Class Posedown. The Top 5 Finalists in each Division and/or Class will perform their individual posing routines. Routines are limited to 90 seconds.
Musclemania is known to be a world class stage event. This reputation is earned, in part, due to state-of-art audio system, provided by Digital Dolby. It is recommended that you take advantage of this available technology by having your music edited and dubbed by an audio technician. Only CD-R disc music will be accepted - do NOT use CD-RW or mini-CD discs. Music may NOT be provided on cassette.

DRUG TESTING CRITERIA

Because the Musclemania Superbody Championships is a natural bodybuilding event, at the discretion of each event promoter, the Top 5 Finalists in each Division or Weight Class may be subject to a drug test by urinalysis immediately following their performance at the Finals. Attached is a complete list of substances which will be included. If a contestant is tested positive for any of the listed substances, he/she will be disqualified from the competition, forfeit any prizes and/or rewards and be unable to compete in any Musclemania event worldwide for at least 2 years. Also, if a contestant refuses to submit to drug testing or attempts to manipulate and/or alter a urinalysis sample, then he/she will be immediately disqualified from the competition.
Contestants from Asia, Europe, Latin America & Middle East MUST register on Thursday, June 18, 2 PM. No exceptions!
Contestants from USA & Canada may register either on Thursday, June 18, 2 PM or Friday, June 19, 8 AM.

MEDIA & PUBLICITY
|
International magazine, newspaper and television media always attend Musclemania events and contestants are encouraged to take advantage of the national and international publicity. While the promoters cannot promise that every contestant will be selected by the attending media, it is recommended that they bring additional sports apparel, posing trunks and other items appropriate for media photo, video and television sessions. Come compete for promotion and present yourself in a marketable manner throughout the weekend as media representatives select models both on and off the contest stage.
